The first Christmas gift I gave my mother was the choice gift of many children: the hand print in plaster I made in preschool. She gushed and hung it on the wall. Decades later she still gushes over everything I give her, but I was 20 when I figured out that the gifts for which she actually has use are travel accessories. Since then I’ve given her an iPod, leather luggage tags, a travel pillow, and other toys to make trips a little more comfortable. ...
